CONFERENCE “KIЕV ARBITRATION DAYS 2012: "THINK BIG"
Our MD Soteris Pittas attended as a key speaker the Conference “KIЕV ARBITRATION DAYS 2012: Think Big!” held on 15-16 November 2012, in Kiev, Ukraine, under the auspices of Ukrainian Bar Association.
Mr. Soteris spoke in the second session of the Conference, titled “Interim measures in International Arbitration”. Other panelists included Prof. Gianmaria Ajani, Dean Faculty of Law at University of Torino, Italy; Dr. Beata Gessel-Kalinowska vel Kalisz, President of the Lewiatan Court of Arbitration, Managing Partner at GESSEL Attorneys at Law, Poland; Johan Lundstedt, Counsel at Arbitration Institute at SCC, Sweden; Simon Bushell, Partner at Herbert Smith LLP, UK; and Gene M. Burd, Co-Chair of the Russia/Eurasia Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law.
The topics discussed were:
• Efficiency and enforceability of arbitral interim measure: Courts v. Arbitral Tribunals.
• Emergency Arbitrator: useful and effective?
• Norwich Pharmacal and Discovery Orders.
• Mareva injunctions. World freezing orders?
In his speech, Mr. Soteris shared his long-standing history of representing clients in the corporate and commercial disputes, focusing on the mechanisms available in Cyprus in aid of international commercial arbitrations, including: the requirements for disclosure of beneficiary, tracing and arresting of assets and shares, prohibition on certain corporate decision-making, changes in management, disposal of assets, as well as appointing the requirements for appointing an interim receiver of a company being the subject of the international commercial arbitration.
The discussion was moderated by Dr. Manfred Heider, Secretary General at Vienna International Arbitral Centre, Austria.
The event was attended by partners and associate lawyers of international law firms as well as of Ukrainian and Russian law firms.
