Peculiarities of disputes in Cyprus in post-M&A and shareholder disputes
Soteris Pittas & Co LLC and AstapovLawyers International Law Group held a joint seminar on “Peculiarities of disputes in Cyprus in post-M&A and shareholder disputes ". The event was held on 19 July in Kiev office of AstapovLawyers.
AstapovLawyers and Soteris Pittas & Co LLC have a long-standing history of representing clients in the corporate and commercial disputes, including a major ongoing dispute between shareholders of well-known Ukrainian beverages producer.
In his speech, Soteris Pittas, as a key note speaker, focused on the basic mechanisms available in Cyprus – the requirements for disclosure of beneficiary, tracing and arresting of assets and shares, derivative disputes, prohibition on certain corporate decision-making, changes in management, disposal of assets, as well as appointing the requirements for appointing an interim receiver of a company on behalf of the minority shareholder or the creditors of a company.
The discussion of the main theme of the seminar was also attended by leading experts ofAstapovLawyers.
Oleg Beketov, Partner at AstapovLawyers, reviewed the role and operation of Ukrainian legal counsel to the international judicial processes of Cyprus and other common law jurisdictions. In particular, he covered issues of witness preparation, preparation of professional experts and experts of the Ukrainian law.
Evgeny Blinov, Counsel at AstapovLawyers, spoke about the practical aspects of the work, bringing the example of cooperation between AstapovLawyers and Soteris Pittas & Co LLC in the context of a case-study of some disputes currently under review in several jurisdictions.
